Element 3

Milestone 3 – Professional Teaching Standards Element 3

I believe I have achieved element 3 in regards to planning, assessing and reporting for effective learning for all students. Throughout my lesson preparations I have followed the NSW syllabus documents and then provided students with an exciting and motivating lesson that reaches the indicators and outcomes required by the Board of studies.

In my lessons I start with a clear focus which will reach the outcomes for that lesson and this is the learning goal I wish to reach by the end of the lesson.  This is shown in my evidence within the lesson plan in the introduction. Next I have planned for lessons that follow on from each other that again focused on broadening student’s knowledge from the lesson before and this also links back to the syllabus outcomes required for that stage. In planning for these lessons I also look at the organisation needed for each lesson and the content that needs to be covered, after this has been planned I then organise materials to help support the students learning within this lesson. At the end of the lesson or lessons I design an assessment task to test students learning and knowledge. This helps to see if students have grasped the content and is also done throughout the lesson through questioning be the teacher and students. This is also the time when feedback is given to the students.

I will need to focus on more assessment strategies as I have not had enough experience yet with implementing them into every lesson. I will also need to do more program evaluation in my next practicum which is also linked to assessment strategies. I will need to learn how to keep an accurate record of student’s progress and this will also help me with reporting to students, parents and caregivers.

I need to have more experience with reporting, as I have seen the program used by the teachers to write reports and have seen how other teachers have prepared for this. But I have not yet had the chance to do this and therefore need more experience.
